Tuesday

9/13/11

Today we practiced creating open-ended questions, then paired up to begin working on the classmate interview and introduction presented in Activity 1.4.

HW: Come to class tomorrow with the introduction of your classmate written out and ready to present. Use the suggestions on page 15 to help you as needed.

Monday

9/12/11

Today we began with a quick write about your name, then we reviewed the homework from this weekend and continued our discussion about diction, syntax, imagery and their affect on tone and voice.

HW: For tomorrow, you need to turn your quick write in to a more polished piece of writing (organized, edited, added to, etc.). You will be sharing this with someone in class tomorrow, so make sure you turn it into a piece you're comfortable showing to another classmate.

Sunday

9/9/11

Today in class we reviewed the homework (1.2) and began working on Activity 1.3 about diction, syntax, imagery and how those elements create tone and voice.

HW: You should complete all of Activity 1.3 (through page 12) for Monday. Come ready to discuss your completed graphic organizers.

Thursday

9/8/11

Today I distributed SpringBoard books and we previewed the text and began looking at Activities 1.1 and 1.2. For tomorrow, you should be through page 6 and ready to discuss your ideas.

Wednesday

9/7/11 -- Happy first day!

Hello, freshmen!
I'm glad you made it back for your first full day of high school. I trust that my class was your very favorite! :)  Today I gave you assigned seats, had you fill out a little "get to know you" index card, and then we talked briefly about the syllabus. In case you already misplaced your syllabus, or your parents might like to print their own copy, you can find it in the list of links on the side of the blog.

Tomorrow, I'll distribute SpringBoard books and we'll dig in to some actual English curriculum. See you then!
