Monday

1/10/11

Okay, so after sickness and meetings at the end of last week, I'm back and ready to finish the semester with vigor.

Freshmen:
I gave you new vocab words, then you took a quick reading quiz over the pages that were assigned over the weekend.
HW: Read the poem Dover Beach in your packet of supplemental materials and think about why this might make Mrs. Phelps cry. We'll discuss tomorrow.

AP Lit:
New vocab words, of  course. These will be the last new words of the semester, though.
Then, we talked about gardens and plants and the natural world and how it is often used symbolically and/or metaphorically in literature. Remember this as you read Brave New World.

HW:On the board I listed the Brave New World reading schedule for the next two weeks and also the finals schedule. Here it is again. If you are absent, stay caught up with the reading. There may be reading quizzes. Be ready.

Then, we talked about some issues/details from the book. We'll continue this tomorrow.
HW: Nope. (Well, except for wishing for snow, of course.)

AP Lit:
Assigned this creative writing assignment. You may choose either "Another Modest Proposal" or the "Anti-Candide." This will be due on Friday.
HW: Finish Candide for tomorrow.
