10/31/11

Today we re-capped MLA format. Don't forget that the final draft of Embedded Assessment #1 is due tomorrow. You also need to bring your rough draft and interview notes to hand in.

Today, you began reading and annotating "When Good People Do Evil." You should highlight and make a note of as many connections as you can find between this article and LOTF. We will discuss this tomorrow.

HW: On Wednesday, we will be taking a test over LOTF. Bring your NOTES with you.

Today we went over a few requirements for completing the final draft of Embedded Assessment #1.
Final drafts are due Tuesday, November 1st. They must be typed, double-spaced and in MLA format. Here is the way MLA format should look.

Next week on Wednesday we will be taking a test over Lord of the Flies. We'll discuss the specifics of the test on Monday.

Today we talked about a few last items from Chapter 10 of LOTF, then reviewed the requirements and scoring guide for Embedded Assessment #1. Please see pages 60-62 in your SpringBoard book for the specifics on this.
HW: For tomorrow, you need to read Chapter 11 in LOTF and you need to bring the notes from your completed interview.

Monday

Today, while you were taking a quiz over LOTF chapter 10, I checked off that you completed pages 58 and 59 in your SpringBoard books, then we had a few minutes to talk about Ralph and Piggy and how messed up these boys have really become.

As you begin Embedded Assessment #1, remember this timeline: Your interview must be completed by Wednesday. The rough draft of your Interview Narrative must be completed by Friday. We'll be talking about the specifics of these things tomorrow.

Also, if you have NOT finished your Narrative Writing Work Sample (from two weeks ago), you must come in and get it finished up by FRIDAY. After Friday all samples will be scored as final drafts.

Today I collected your Pig's Head assignments and gave you a few minutes to update your LOTF notes. Then, we finished reading Chapter 9 together. (Poor Simon!)

Today, as promised, you had a few minutes to work on finishing up the "Pig's Head" visual and questions. I will collect these tomorrow. Then, we began reading Chapter 9 of LOTF together. We'll finish this together in class tomorrow.

I checked off your 1.13 homework from SpringBoard. Then, we talked about some LOTF issues and you had a few minutes to begin working on your "Pig's Head" handout. You'll have some more time to work on this tomorrow.

Sorry I wasn't with you today. Alas, I was home sick. But I know that Ms. Wooley held down the fort and you discussed the SpringBoard homework and dug in to LOTF Ch. 7 a bit.

Hopefully, I'll be back tomorrow and we'll pick up from there.

Happy Monday!

Today you handed in your playlist homework, then we began working on a Narrative Work Sample. We'll be spending the rest of this week completing the work sample-- like the rest of the English classes in the building. So, come ready to write and edit and amaze with your abilities!

After a few minutes to prepare yourselves while I handed back some papers, you took a LOTF Chapter 6 quiz. We talked briefly about grades, too. Then we began discussing some more LOTF.

No homework tonight! If you have gotten behind, use this time to catch up.

Wednesday

10/5/11

Today we reviewed the "Coming of Age" theme that you were asked to think and write about in SpringBoard Activity 1.10. We discussed (from your homework) how "First Love" is a coming of age story, and also how "Always Running," the "Cut" selections and LOTF are coming of age stories as well. We compared and contrasted the ideas and "lessons" that these stories have presented.

At the end of the period I collected the "mock interviews" you created for the narrator of First Love (1.10, #3) and for a character in LOTF (1.10, #4)-- these were assigned and begun in class on Monday.

HW: For tomorrow, read Chapter 6 in LOTF and continue working on your double entry notes.

Tuesday

10/3 and 10/4

Monday: Today you turned in your masks and worked on 1.10 in the Spring Board book.
HW: For tomorrow you need to be through Chapter 5 in LOTF with notes.

Tuesday: We discussed some important issues and passages from LOTF Chapters 4 & 5.
HW: Finish up 1.10, including all the parts of page 41. For #4, you'll use LOTF as the "independent novel" you've been reading.
