HW: Study for vocabulary quiz. Remember to bring SSR book.

We watched the awesome animated Oedipus with vegetables, and listened to Tom Lehrer's Oedipus Rex song. Then you had a few minutes to finish your in-class essay and begin brainstorming for the "creative" writing assignment which is due on Tuesday.

We continued working on the practice reading test. We'll finish that up tomorrow and possibly start to discuss the answers. If you finish up, you will also have the chance to finish the Greek Roots Pretest (if you didn't finish last week) and possibly go to the library to look for an SSR book.
HW: Study for vocab quiz on Friday. Also, you need your SSR book for Friday.

AP Lit:
Today we worked on an in class Oedipus essay. You'll have chance to finish that up tomorrow, if needed. Also, we'll start working on a creative interpretation of Oedipus tomorrow.

Unforgettable #2-- Avoid using "I think", "I feel", "In my opinion" or "I believe" in persuasive formal essays.
Took some notes on the 6 question types from the OAKS Reading test.
Read a sample passage, answered 7 questions and identified each question type.

AP Lit:
Made a list-- Oedipus' missteps.
HW: Make a list of sight/blindness references in Oedipus. Tomorrow we will have an in-class essay and (possibly) begin another creative Oedipus assignment.

Welcome to 2nd Semester!

Hi kids. We're halfway through and hopefully you're ready to take on the last two terms. Before you know it it will be Spring Break!

2/1/2010
I'm so sorry I wasn't with you today, but I decided to stay home in an attempt to kick this lingering cold. In my absence, here's what you accomplished:

Freshmen: Made posters of last semester's vocabulary words. These may just come up on a end of the year final exam, so be reviewing them regularly.

AP Lit: Looked back through Trifles to find lines that may have multiple meanings, depending on how they are expressed. I'll collect your ideas on this and your responses to A Jury of Her Peers tomorrow.

2/2/2010
Freshmen:
I assigned new seats, gave you new vocabulary words, and talked about how new SSR books need to be a biography or a work of non-fiction. Vocab quiz will be on Friday.

AP Lit:
We discussed Trifles and Jury-- which we preferred, why and titles. Also , discussed the ideas you came up with yesterday.
HW: Read Introduction to Greek Tragedy for tomorrow.
