AP Lit:
Reviewed our silent discussion, generating some good ideas about theme for your papers.
You should begin working on your BNW papers. Your thesis should be something to the effect of: In Brave New World, Aldous Huxley uses [literary device(s)] to show [meaning of the work as a whole]. (Only you fill in the brackets, of course, with actual information...) I'd like you to bring drafts of your essay to class with you on Tuesday.

Freshmen:
We've been continuing to work on LOTF essays. Final drafts were due in class today. We used our class time to write a reflection letter about your essays and your writing process. I made the offer that if students (who after reviewing their essay which was completed on time) felt like they could use one more draft to write a better paper, they could take it home and bring a final- final draft tomorrow. This last draft must be turned in with the one I stamped in class, in order not to be counted for late points.

Silent discussion of the topics we began brainstorming about yesterday: Community, Identity, Stability, Freedom, Dependence, Suffering, Faith, Humanity, Technology, Solitude, Adulthood. We will go over your collected thoughts tomorrow and begin to write possible thesis statements for your BNW essay.

HW: Work on another draft of LOTF essay. We'll look at OMAM essays, MLA and use of quotes tomorrow. Final Draft (typed, double spaced, MLA format) is due on Wednesday.

We finished the LOTF movie yesterday and, as promised started working on our papers today. Using the Abstractions List, we brainstormed a bunch of themes related to LOTF. Then we expanded these into at least 5 workable thesis statements. Tomorrow, we will narrow our choices and begin writing.
HW: By Monday you will need to have a fully developed functional rough draft of your Lord of the Flies essay. Final drafts (typed, in MLA format) will be due next Wednesday!
AP Lit:
Wrapped up our discussion of characters and comparisons in BNW.
HW: Be ready to discuss chapters 16 and 17 tomorrow. Finish the book by Monday.
