"A" day -- 11/5/08

Late Arrival schedule!

Period 1: Freshmen
SSR and homework check. Handout "How to Write a Wonderful Essay" and discussion of the OMAM essay topics. Instruction on the P.E.E. method for writing body paragraphs. A bit of class time to begin creating an outline for your essay, including: topic, thesis statement, PEE for body paragraphs and restated thesis.
HW: Finish up outline and have it ready to start drafting next class.

Period 5: AP Lit.
Candide discussion in groups: discuss, summarize, create a visual and report out to whole class.
HW: Write "Anti-Candide" (or, Pessimism)-- so maybe instead of problem after problem, it will involve good thing after good thing, with a protagonist who sees the world through such a lens of negativity that they can't see their blessings... Be creative and see what you can come up with.

Period 7: Shakespeare
Senior meeting at 2:45, means we lose half of the class after 1/2 an hour... so, the assignment is to read the article about Abraham Lincoln and Macbeth and write a thoughtful response (what did you learn? what was interesting? what did you agree/disagree with? etc.) Class time to work, then finish up as homework.
